Where are the Wild Things this week? Absolutely everywhere. NYC & company has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures (the company behind Spike Jonze’s highly anticipated film based on Maurice Sendak’s beloved book) to bring us “Wild Things Week in NYC.” We’re generally wary a of such blatant self-promotion but we have to admit that some of these events sound, if not wild, then pretty fun!
Kids can create crafts inspired by the tale and enter to win tickets to an advance screening of the flick at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Children’s Museum of Manhattan and Staten Island Children’s Museum. The Morgan Library and Museum is featuring a special exhibition of Sendak’s original drawings and sketches. If your tot is feeling really wild, let him roar his terrible roars and gnash his terrible teeth in one of NYC’s parks on canoe trips and wildflower walks. And of course the main event (besides the film’s opening) is on Tuesday Oct 13, when stars Catherine Keener, Forest Whitaker and Max Records (yes Max himself!) read the book aloud to fans of all ages at the main branch of the New York Public Library.
