Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies brings you hip-hop.
BACK OFF Y-Love and Diwon comes to Chicago.
Spertus is proud to host a one-night-only concert by “hip-hop revolutionaries,” Brooklyn-based Y-Love and Diwon. The pair will perform their signature global hip-hop sound at this concert, which marks the first Chicago appearance by Y-Love and Diwon in more than two years. Y-Love’s rhymes seamlessly intertwine English, Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic and Latin. He combines ethereal scripture with gritty social consciousness, reflecting his own life-changing conversion to Hasidism. Dressed in traditional garb and armed with a beat machine and sounds of the Semitic underground, Diwon’s beats fuse electro hip-hop with traditional Yemenite and Sephardic music. They create “global hip-hop” to promote unity and tear down social boundaries.
