Though it was announced last week as one of the tentpoles of Broadway in Chicago’s 2010–11 season series, the New York Times is now reporting that a planned national tour of God of Carnage won’t be happening. The 2009 Tony winner by Yazmina Reza is still running on Broadway—there are reports from some corners that when the latest cast, which includes Jeff Daniels, Janet McTeer, Dylan Baker and Lucy Liu, ends its run the producers plan to goose the box office with an all African-American cast. As for the announced tour, however, the Times’s Patrick Healy quotes an unnamed production source as saying producers couldn’t book enough cities to make a road production profitable. The remaining entries in BIC’s season series are Fuerza Bruta: Look Up, Rock of Ages, Traces, 9 to 5: The Musical and Burn the Floor.

I might wrong about this, but I thought it was jeff daniels in the broadway cast…not jeff bridges.
Apparently I’ve still got Bridges on the brain from the Oscars. Correction made, thanks.
Meh. I saw the first replacement cast (Jimmy Smits, Annie Potts, Christine Lahti) and it was a long, slow death. Mr, Jones’ protests aside, I think it’s a mediocre play, but agree that it will be better served by a local production.
