With all the out-of-work graphic designers in the world, you’d think doing CD cover designs would be coveted gigs, but no, there’s not much money in it anymore. Every joe with a laptop thinks he can design album covers and get away with it. But we’re here to say you can’t get away with it, bubb! Here are the ten worst CD covers that came into Time Out Chicago’s music corner in 2009. That’s not saying anything about the tunes, mind you. To win them (if you dare to own this stack of ugliness) submit your personal pick for worst cover art of 2009 in the comments below. It must be worse than the ten above. We’ll give it a week and then announce a winner.

For personal reasons I was pretty embarrassed by this awful album cover:

I submit Japandroids Post-Nothing for what appears to be a facebook profile photo.
I’ve got to go with the Celestial Monster #1
I’m going to have to go with “Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun… it is truly, just…. wow. So bad. http://tinyurl.com/yak7hw3
PHLP, I would have preferred a much larger image of James with the banana phone on the B Pebbles cover. Otherwise, I think it captures the spirit of the band and the era quite accurately.
The Ellie Maybe Experence album is definitely the worst. We are terrible. We can’t even spell our own name! Boo us! I vote for Ellie Maybe.
OK the Ellie Maybe cover is the worst. What were they thinking? Infinitely lame.
I have to vote for the Bowling for Soup. Some things you just can’t unsee.
Honorable mention that is not on your list is this cover. Gives me a headache: http://www.amazon.com/Rad-Warehouses-Bad-Neighborhoods-Death/dp/B000R7G6AO
OMG, how about Dark Meat - When the Shelter Came ?

Although the covers might not be the greatest, the Ellie Maybe Experience and the Dan Hicks albums are very good!
