    More Black Wednesday parties

Posted in Clubs by Joshua P. Ferguson on November 25th, 2009 at 1:45 pm

So many Black Wednesday parties coming out of the woodwork over the last few weeks that the TOC presses can barely keep up.  Here’s a breakdown of even more events that are blipping on our radar and going down tonight:

    NIGHTLIFE - Dope!
Dance vibes take over the main floor of this dive bar as the Chicago Workgroup’s DJ Weaponry steps into the booth with his mix of nudisco, house and tastefully electro beats. Broken Disco 1980 a.k.a. Mr. Bobby, Akira Smith and Le Fonz of new wave band Perfect Kiss add to the Black Wednesday festivities with its mix of pristine disco, italo and, naturally, new wave selections. Knex and Vapor Eyes open. Liar’s Club. 10pm; $5, free before 11pm.

    NIGHTLIFE - Thankstaking Eve Party
Focusing more on the cultural and political implications of the turkey day holiday, Funky Buddha presents a special edition of its weekly Kitchen Sink party headlined by activist rap group Rebel Diaz. Conceived of in Humboldt Park, the three man crew moved to the Bronx shortly thereafter to help give its music—which focuses on immigrants rights and political resistance—a broader audience. DJs Trilogy, Intel, Zebo, Big_Once and Mav Slash help spur on the revolutionary spirit of the night. Funky Buddha Lounge. 10pm; $10, $5 before 11pm.
NIGHTLIFE - Black Wednesday @ Lava
With it’s days as a beat driven nightlife spot on a quick wane, newly anointed Smart Bar resident John Simmons is joined by scene staples Gant Man and Itch 13 for a throwdown covering all the bases in house, hip-hop and quality dance. Lava. 10pm. Free.

    NIGHTLIFE - Darkroom Black Wednesday
With a slight latin twist to an otherwise indie and electro onslaught. Local knob-tweeker Saber headlines with a live electro set, with the indie-esque DJ Nando, Trancid of Dark Wave Disco, Eddie Riot and Broken Disco 1980—evidently pulling double duty tonight—opening. darkroom. 10pm; $5, free before 11pm.
    NIGHTLIFE - The Hump
Recently locked down as a regularly occurring disco get together at Bar Deville, Deeper Soul Recordings Josh Deep helms this night dedicated to dusty disco, boogie beatdowns and roller skating jams alongside esteemed collectors Sol Son and Specter. These cats knowledge runs deep so don’t think the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack will make it into the rotation. Bar Deville. 10pm. FREE!
