Five things to do today: November 29

Posted in Around Town by John Dugan on November 29th, 2009 at 8:45 am

MUSIC - Dave Rempis & Frank Rosaly
Local jazz-improv players Dave Rempis and Rosaly have a unique chemistry, honed as members of the former’s Percussion Quartet. The spry sax-drums duo spars over two sets at this CD-release gig, supporting its debut disc, Cyrillic, available tonight in advance of its official Jan 12 release via 482 Music. Hungry Brain, 10pm, donation.

THEATER - A Fight Club for One
Chicago native Erick Esteban, a now-L.A.-based vet of productions at Victory Gardens and Strawdog, returns home with a single performance of his solo show recounting every fight he’s ever been in. 7pm, Lakeshore Theater, $15–$20.

GAY & LESBIAN - Roxy Bellows
Self-absorbed cabaret drunk Roxy, charms with her boozy improvised numbers. Mary’s Attic, 5400 N Clark St (773-784-6969). El: Red to Berwyn. Bus: 22, 92. 7:30pm; $10.

    ART & DESIGN - “Den.”
Mike Bancroft and Evan Plummer curate a group show about the American rec room in Bancroft’s alternative gallery.
Garage Spaces, 1337 N Maplewood Avenue. Noon–5pm. FREE.

    AROUND TOWN/SHOPPING & STYLE - Christkindlmarket
Genuine Germans make the trip across the Atlantic to Daley Plaza where they set up small stands packed with gifts and culinary delicacies. The traditional-style Christmas market offers hearty holiday fare such as sauerkraut, grilled sausages, potato pancakes, glühwein and sweet candied almonds. The wooden huts also brim with candy, blown glass, European Christmas decorations and other delights. 11am–8pm. Daley Plaza Washington and Dearborn Sts.
