The folks behind the U.S. version of The Office are behind “Subtle Sexuality,” a spin-off Web series featuring the supporting ensemble behind the hit NBC comedy (Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson are notably absent). “Subtle Sexuality” is shorter than previous Web series from The Office—only three episodes, just under 8 minutes total. The series culminates in the hilarious music video—clock it above.
Directed by Office writer Mindy Kaling—who also plays Dunder Mifflin’s perky customer service representative Kelly Kapoor—”Subtle Sexuality” tracks the filming of a music video in the deserted office. While everyone is out taking software training, Kelly and newbie receptionist Erin (Ellie Kemper), with the assistance of Ryan (B.J. Novak) and Andy (Ed Helms) record the Auto-Tuned dance number “Male Prima Donna,” based on Kelly and Ryan’s dysfunctional relationship. The first two episodes of the Web series are just build-up to the actual musical production featuring Kelly and Erin in gold leggings, Ryan in an all-white suit and Andy wearing what looks like his normal office get-up…with the sleeves ripped off. It may not be my favorite Web series music video of the year, but it’s still a ridiculous amount of fun.
