Live review: Bloodshot 15th Anniversary Beer-B-Q
The belt sanders raced, the ‘cue cooked and the Rolling Rock went down easy (maybe too easy) at Bloodshot Records‘ 15th anniversary bash at the Hideout this past Saturday. Even the club’s man in Washington, Tim Tuten, returned for the occasion, which went a long way toward sating those hungry for high-octane roots and (don’t call it “insurgent”) country. I didn’t spot label owners Rob Miller or Nan Warshaw amid the honky-tonk hoopla, but rousing sets from past and present BS artists—including Scott H. Biram, Alejandro Escovedo and the Waco Brothers—ensured a hell-raising, fire-breathing close to the street-fest season.

Nan was all over the place. You couldn’t miss her signature pink hair.
As a longtime ambassador of all that Bloodshot does, I thought it was great to see them get their due on Saturday. They’ve helped launch some big careers (Neko, Ryan Adams, Old 97s), but it’s the Moonshine Willy’s and Bobby Bare Jr.’s and Waco Brothers of the world that make Bloodshot so much fun, and so vital to the Chicago music scene. And after Saturday, I can’t get enough of Scotland Yard Gospel Choir.
