Due to studio-set review embargoes, I can’t tell you yet what I think of (500) Days of Summer (patience, my pretties; my review will be out tomorrow), but I will say that it’s been growing in my estimation in the time since I wrote the review, partly because moments from it have stuck with me.
One of those moments, which is excerpted in one of the commercials, is a conversation between the young couple Tom (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Summer (Zooey Deschanel), in which she warns him that she doesn’t want to be a couple like Sid and Nancy, always fighting. He says he doesn’t think he’s at all like Sid, and she replies “No, I’m Sid.”
Well, in a witty bit of viral marketing, (500) director Marc Webb, Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel have filmed a reenactment of a scene from Sid and Nancy for slashfilm.com, with Deschanel playing Sid and Gordon-Levitt, in a bad wig but with convincing emotion, playing Nancy. Note that I haven’t said that I love (500) Days of Summer. See, not breaking embargoes! Just saying the Sid and Nancy reenactment is clever.
The hipster in me (and isn’t there a hipster in all of us?) thinks that zooey is very cute from the few things I’ve seen her in (weeds, late late show appearance).
