Sure, you could check out Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on the Museum of Science & Industry’s Omnimax screen starting July 15. That’s cool and all. But one of our three remaining area drive-in theaters will premiere the hotly anticipated summer film on its even bigger screen next Wednesday, too. Time Out London says, “the sixth episode of the adventures of the increasingly burdened magic warrior of Privet Drive is a more human affair than its predecessors. It’s as full of the romantic dalliances of the maturing students as it is of warring set-pieces, creature shocks and detours down dark Dickensian alleys.” Might be worth the drive out to the ‘burbs.
Here’s your full drive-in report for this weekend (and, in the case of Mr. Potter, beyond)…
Cascade: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and The Hangover carry over through Tuesday 14. But Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes over the lead spot on Wednesday 15, followed by Transformers.
McHenry Outdoor Theatre: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs hangs in for another week, but its followed now by weeper My Sister’s Keeper, which we call out for “naked bathos-mongering.” Sounds sexy! (But it’s not.)
Route 34 Drive-in: In its second sci-fi-tastic double feature in as many weeks, Terminator Salvation leads into Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
