I’m a little sad to report that the seemingly tireless writer-performer James Asmus (of Hey You Millionaires, Impress These Apes, Chicago Underground Comedy, the Annoyance, etc., etc.) is leaving us next month to answer the siren call of L.A. (pssst, James, watch out for those sharp rocks!). At least he’s giving us some lovely parting gifts. Asmus, who also writes for Marvel Comics (seriously, when does the dude sleep?), is currently appearing in the Annoyance’s terrific Sodomites!!! (pictured, Asmus center), for which he served as head writer; he’s also one of the writers of The New Colony’s Tupperware: An American Musical Fable, which opens Monday night at La Costa Theatre. And though it’s too late for our listings, we just got word that Asmus is performing a farewell show this Sunday and next at the Annoyance. Titled James Asmus Touched Us All, it’ll find Asmus debuting some new solo material, as well as polishing up some old bits from Apes, Millionaires and the rest so they’ll be ready to sparkle in that infernal California sunshine. Get touched for $10 at 9pm, July 12 and 19.

James Asmus is enormously talented. Go see this show and consider yourself lucky to get a chance to witness a genuis in action. It’s a loss for Chicago’s artistic community but not to late to enjoy his work! :)
Chicago won’t be the same without him. But be sure to see Tupperware: An American Musical Fable, for which he co-wrote the book. I caught a preview last night it’s amazing! http://www.thenewcolony.org/tupperware/
