Bars and restaurants are offering loads of deals to make April 15 a little less taxing, pun definitely intended. Here are a few of the best places to celebrate your huge return or sulk over your lack of one.
You don’t know it yet, but tarte flambees might just be the best fix for tax-day depression. Brasserie Jo’s offering them for free, along with $4.01 Hopla drafts.
The huge and hugely popular Carnivale is offering everyone eating lunch or dinner a $15 gift certificate to use on their next visit.
Chens and Koi, sibling restaurants, have plenty to offer in terms of both Japanese and Chinese food, but tonight, take advantage of their tax special and opt for sesame chicken or any number of their other Chinese entrées, all $10.99 all night.
A perfect meal: a good hamburger with cheddar cheese, hand-cut fries and a beer. What makes it even better? The beer is a Goose Island IPA, it’s served in Eve’s sophisticated space and tonight, it costs only $10.
No matter the size of your refund, when tax day falls on your birthday, you’ve gotta celebrate. Wicker Park’s Moonshine opened six years ago today and it’s celebrating the occasion (and tax day) with $15 mojito pitchers, $4 Jack Daniel’s cocktails and $3 microbrews. There will be music and, if the weather gods are smiling, the huge patio will be open. 9pm–2am.
Nacional 27 is getting nostalgic with its tax-day specials, bringing its mojito down to its 1999 price of $6 (from its usual $12) for one night only. Later, we can all tell the younguns how when we were their age, mojitos cost only six dollars. 5pm-9:30pm.
Indulge in some solid French food tonight and Old Town Brasserie will give you a gift certificate in the amount of $10.40, to be used by June 1, long after you blew your return on something you “needed” (if you’re as responsible as we are.)
The Smoke Daddy is Bucktown’s best tax-day spot to pretend you’re on a back porch somewhere warm and far away, enjoying a Miller High Life (for $2) and BBQ wings ($4), your money troubles a distant memory.
Martinis are one of those drinks that just feel classy in the hand. If your lack of a tax refund has you feeling less-than-classy, buy dinner at Evanston’s Va Pensiero and you can get 15-cent martinis all night long.
ZOCALO is serving a special three-course dinner, only 15 bucks per guest. Tax day is a great day for a bottle of wine, and it’s offering bottles for half-price all night. 5pm–11pm.
