Luxuries like gym memberships are usually the first things to go when the going gets tough. But this week’s Freebie lets the tough keep going with W Hotels’ Workouts by the Water. Gym rat-refugees can meet in W – Chicago Lakeshore’s Living Room before heading out to the waterfront for an hour-long session led by the hotel’s general manager Heather Steenge-Hart and trainer Saran Dunmore. The sessions, which started Wednesday and run through the end of summer, start bright and early at 6:30am every Tuesday; or you can drop in during after-work hours from 5–6pm Mondays and Wednesdays. The W’s Chicago-City Center location is serving up some free exercise, too: “Get Winded with the W” workouts start with a gathering at the hotel before heading to Millennium Park every Thursday from 6–7am. The sessions are open to hotel guests, as well as the public, and are geared toward all ages and fitness levels.
