Mississippi-born Mose Allison epitomizes hip white-guy cool. He’s everyone’s favorite singer’s favorite singer, with a pedigree that stretches back to the 1950s, when he began recording, sharing stage and studio with Jack Kerouac’s adored jazzers Zoot Sims and Al Cohn, and the great Stan Getz. Allison’s seductive and easygoing style came as his natural birthright: Mississippi is the land of the blues, and this performer has it in his blood. 8, 10pm. MUSIC - Lambchop
When Lambchop played Chicago last in 2006, with string section in tow, the turnout was less than overwhelming. While unfortunate, it was perhaps inevitable, as the band’s Kurt Wagner is the kind of consistently stellar songwriter that people take for granted. Fortunately, the Old Town School is the perfect venue for him and his band, as listeners will surely give the sprawling group the same attention Wagner gives the songs on the group’s latest, OH (Ohio) (Merge). 7:30pm. Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N Lincoln Ave between Sunnyside and Wilson Aves (773-728-6000, oldtownschool.org). El: Brown to Western. Bus: 11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, 49 Western (24hrs). $16–$20.

Stop by Spanda Yoga on Sat 24 and see what it’s all about—for free. 4:30–6pm. Spanda Yoga Center, 906 N Damen Ave between Iowa and Walton Sts (773-971-6271, spandayogacenter.com). El: Blue to Damen. Bus: 50 Damen, 70 Division. FREE!
SPORTS & REC - South Side Cyclepaths January Barhop
Yes, you could end up in the hoosegow for biking under the influence (though we’ve never heard of any cyclists getting pinched), but we still think this South Side pub crawl will be a spirited good time for the spoke folks. Ambitiously, they’re angling to hit 6–8 bars around the Pilsen, Little Village and McKinley Park ’hoods, highlighting “those little corner places you’d never go to on your own.” The ride is free, but you’re on your own when it comes to libations. 8pm. Martin’s Corner Bar & Grill, 2058 W 22nd Pl at Hoyne Ave (773-710-4143, bikewinter.org). El: Pink to Damen. Bus: 21, 50, 60.

Metra: Elec Main to Millennium Station. $7 festival pass includes admission to several other MGFest events.
DANCE - Barrage
This oversize production is like STOMP, but with violins. Not our cup of tea, but the megadoses of liveliness, smiley-faced sentimentality, noise and bright lights could serve as a temporary antidote to seasonal affective disorder. Paramount Theatre, 23 E Galena Blvd, Aurora (630-896-6666). Metra: Burlington/Santa Fe to Aurora. 2pm, $25.50–$45.50.

MUSIC - The Beatnuts + Connie Price and the Keystones
The Beatnuts have been underground hip-hop fixtures for 15 years, but it’s been a while since the members released something under the name. The group’s last studio album was 2004’s Milk Me, featuring a gloriously offensive cover that would have made Spinal Tap proud. Tonight, the Latino contingent of the Native Tongues posse is supported by L.A. funk staple Connie Price and the Keystones at a Scion-sponsored show. 10pm. Metro, 3730 N Clark St between Waveland and Racine Aves (773-549-0203, metrochicago.com). El: Red to Addison. Bus: 22 Clark (24hrs), 152 Addison. FREE with R.S.V.P. at scion.com/livemetro.
SPORTS & REC - South Side Ice Cross
And we thought we were tough because we made it into work (with the help of mass transit) on the morning of negative 25-degree wind chills. These brave spoke folks will be racing against each other and the nastiest of Chicago’s elements during the series of South Side cyclocross races. 10am. Jackson Park, 6401 S Stony Island Ave at 64th St (taticycles.com/index.php?showimage=185, j@taticycles.com). Bus: 6 Jackson Park Express, 28 Stony Island. $1.
