Normally, in exchange for your $13 admission fee, the Museum of Science and Industry will grant you access to its more than 14 acres of floor space housing 35,000 artifacts and interactive exhibits—including faves like the mammoth U-505 German submarine, the classic train journey through a coal mine and the new permanent future-tech exhibition “Fast Forward.” Not a bad deal, but now through January 31, you can have all that for just a wink and a nod.
The MSI is offering free general admission every day through the end of the month, which also makes this a great time to check out new revolving shows like the “Green Revolution,” this year’s Black Creativity exhibition, which opens January 15. Now the question is, what will you do with the $13 you saved? Might I suggest a tote-ful of hot-wax U-505 Mold-a-Ramas?
Free days run through January 31 (5700 S Lake Shore Dr, 773- 684-1414, msichicago.org).
UPDATE: The Shedd Aquarium just announced its free days, which they call Community Discount Days. From January 10–16, guests get free general admission to original galleries, plus discounts to special exhibitions such as the Wild Reef, a dog show showcasing animals trained the “Shedd Way” and shows at the aquarium’s 4-D theater. Check out their web site for details.
