Helen Rosner of the Chicago MenuPages blog has done some excellent reporting (not to mention some impressive DVR-to-YouTube recording), the result of which is video of a fully undisguised Pat Bruno, the food critic at the Sun-Times, making an appearance on national television. We’ve covered issues of anonymity, etc, in our pages and on this blog before. But this is a new kind of recklessness, the Andrew Zimmern* school of restaurant reviewing, a brand of criticism that says “we don’t give a fuck who sees us…we’re just here for the free food.”
Full details at the MenuPages blog. It really is a must read.
*Zimmern, host of the most condescending hour on television, was once (and kind of still is) a critic at Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine, where his picture appeared above his reviews.
