This week’s featured shot from the TOC Flickr photo group comes to us from katherine of chicago.
Here are some things to do this weekend:

Bus: 22 Clark (24hrs), 29 State. $30, $20 kids 12 and under.
MUSIC - Stereolab
The electro-pop institution Stereolab has routinely reconfigured itself, shifting shape without abandoning the hallmarks of its sound. Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier’s prolific ensemble long ago transcended the krautrock and Velvet Underground influences that informed its early work. But the soul of the core duo has always remained intact, driven by Sadier’s deep-tone, playful vocal melodies and Gane’s quirky, guitar-driven trots. Its latest, Chemical Chords (4AD), is no exception, featuring succinct arrangements largely informed by ’60s French pop and Motown soul. Sadier’s other outfit, Monade, opens. 8pm. Martyr’s, 3145 N Sheffield Ave, at Belmont Ave, Lakeview/Roscoe Village/Wrigleyville, Chicago (773-472-0449) $23.
SPORTS & REC - Fireworks Paddle
Just because summer has passed, it doesn’t mean the folks at Navy Pier have tucked away the pyrotechnics. Enjoy the spectacular Navy Pier fireworks display from the river (we think the reflections in the water double the fun) as the fine folks at Kayak Chicago guide you along for the ride to the Pier. Be sure to call for reservations. 6:30–10:30pm. Kayak Chicago, 1501 N Magnolia Ave at Le Moyne St (630-336-7245, kayakchicago.com). El: Red to North/Clybourn. Bus: 8 Halsted, 72 North. $50.
THEATER - If You See Something, Say Something
In his first Chicago appearance, monologuist Mike Daisey weaves the history of the Patriot Act and Department of Homeland Security together with a biography of neutron-bomb inventor Sam Cohen. 7:30pm. Museum of Contemporary Art Theater, 220 E Chicago Ave, ground level entrance, at Mies van der Rohe Way (312-397-4010). El: Red to Chicago. Bus: 3, 10, 26, 66 (24hrs), 125, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 151 (24hrs). $25, MCA members $20.

COMEDY - Del Tones present the New I.O. Musical

There may never be another Baby (psst…they still run at the Apollo Theater), but this group comes damn near close. 8pm. iO Cabaret, 3541 N Clark St between Cornelia and Eddy Sts (773-880-0199). El: Red to Addison. Bus: 22 Clark (24hrs), 152 Addison. $14.
DANCE - Deconstructing the Body–Womyn’s Performance Workshop
In conjunction with the Studies N Blackness festival at Links Hall, choreographer Margaret Morris and spoken-word artist Nikki Patin invite women to uncover and break free from the social conditioning that hides inside their bodies. 1–4pm. Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S Cornell Ave at 51st St (773-324-5520, hydeparkart.org). Bus: 6, 15, 28. Metra: Elec Main to 51st/53rd St. $25 suggested donation.
FILM - The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Okay, call us “rank sentimentalists” (identify that quote and win a prize!), but we have a soft spot for The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, a 1947 romance involving a widow and the ghost who inhabits the house she has just bought. 8pm. Bank of America Cinema, 4901 W Irving Park Rd between Lavergne and Lamon Aves (312-904-9442). Bus: 54, 54A, 80, X80. $5, seniors and kids under 10. $3.

Skokie Lagoons, Tower Rd east of the Edens Expressway, Glencoe (312-939-0490, chicagoriver.org). $40.
MUSIC - Justin Townes Earle
Justin Townes Earle takes his middle name from the late Townes Van Zandt, the legendary Texas troubadour. As if that weren’t enough to live up to, Earle inherited his family name from father Steve Earle. Justin dangerously followed in his dad’s flawed footsteps—struggling with drugs and other self-destructive behavior—but he’s decidedly triumphant on his latest album, The Good Life. 9pm. Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave, between Elston Ave and Throop St, Bucktown/Wicker Park, Chicago, (773-227-4433) $12.
SHOPPING & STYLE - 4th Annual Open Studio Night
There surely will be plenty more room on your walls to hang some original art by local artists once you pitch those posters you’ve been hanging onto since middle school. Drop by these Wicker Park artist studios this weekend to check out work by Jeremiah Ketner, Stacie Johnson and many other up-and-coming Chicago artists as they open their work spaces to the public. For more information, call 773-278-6740 or visit thesplatflats.com. 4–10pm. The Splat Flats, 1815 W Division St at Wood St. El: Blue to Division. Bus: 9 (24hrs), 50, 70.

Registration is required. g boutique, 2131 N Damen Ave between Armitage and Webster Ave (773-235-1234). El: Blue to Damen. Bus: 50 Damen, 73 Armitage. $95.
MUSIC - Fleet Foxes
Sub Pop’s very own Crosby, Stills & Nash recently made it to the counter bin at your local Starbucks, and it’s no wonder. These bearded Washington state hymn-hummers ooze everything soothing and smokey about the rural Pacific Northwest. 9pm. Metro 3730 N Clark St, between Waveland and Racine Aves, Lakeview/Roscoe Village/Wrigleyville, Chicago (773-549-0203) $14.
SPORTS & CULTURE - Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Show up in Grant Park or anywhere along the course (see marathon website for map) to cheer on your friends and family who are running. Or if you don’t know anybody in the race, catch a glimpse of the kind of lunatic who purposefully tortures their body for 26.2 miles. The crowds will be thicker downtown and on the North Side, so if you’re looking for a party, hit those up. If you really want to support the runners during the final stretch, though, your best bet is to head west or south, where the crowds thin out until the runners approach the finish line at Buckingham Fountain. Stick around for the 27th Mile Post-Race Party at Butler Field featuring live entertainment, food and Goose Island brew. 8am. Grant Park, 300 S Columbus Dr at Jackson Dr (chicagomarathon.com). El: Red, Blue to Jackson; Orange, Brown, Green, Pink, Purple (rush hrs) to Adams. Bus: 1, 3, 4 (24hrs), 6, 7, 14, 26, 28, 126, 145. FREE! (to watch).
SPORTS & REC - Stay the Course: All-Season Cycling Made Simple
Sadly, we are always in the camp of folks who make (and later break) a vow that this winter, we’ll keep on keeping on the two-wheeler. If you’re anything like us, you’ll head out to Logan Square for a little help. Covering such topics as layering, riding safely through the slush and snow as well as maintenance tips, Chicago Bike Winter and the Logan Square Bicycle Advisory Committee have got you covered. 11am. Logan Square Monument, 3200 W Logan Blvd between Milwaukee Ave and Kedzie Blvd (773-252-4657, bikewinter.org). El: Blue to Logan Square. Bus: 56 Milwaukee, 76 Diversey. FREE!
THEATER - Dashiell Hamlet
Drinks are poured and plenty of ’em in this gumshoe-flavored retelling of Hamlet. Though the updated framework runs the risk of being too lacquered in noir to reveal motivation and feeling, there’s real satisfaction in discovering how City Lit translates the mother of all Shakespeare plays into the sinister, belt-of-Scotch style. 8pm. City Lit Theatre, 1020 W Bryn Mawr Ave at Kenmore Ave (773-293-3682). El: Red to Bryn Mawr. Bus: 147 Outer Drive Exp, 151 Sheridan (24hrs). $25.
