Affordable furniture sounds like an oxymoron, especially when there’s no medium density fiberboard involved. But Post 27—the modest store with beautiful window displays on 1819 W Grand Ave—quietly opened last April, providing a much needed full-service outlet for inexpensive vintage-modern wares.
Last night owners and husband-wife team Angela Finney-Hoffman and Barkley Hoffman threw a cocktail fete introducing their own art lighting and pillows, as well as art and furniture by a handful of local designers. Topping it off was a huge collection of vintage pieces for sale.
Finney-Hoffman, who ditched her design job at Goliath Holly Hunt to open this warm, warehouse-like establishment, told me her goal: Dredge up some quality, lesser-known modern designs and sell them at lesser prices. And truly, most items possess a minimalist high-design feel while eschewing big brands—Mies, Le Corbusier, Milo Baughman et al. The best part: Smaller furnishings such as armchairs and dinettes go for around $150, and bigger pieces—like curvaceous Danish modern credenzas—run up $600. For you furniture novices, that’s Crate and Barrel Outlet store prices—sans vinyl and garish trendy colors. For you vintage lovers, you know what that means: No more weekends scouring Salvation Army. (Thank you, thank you, Hoffmans.)
