Chicagoist 
is breaking the bad news that Diner Grill seems to have closed. (Whether they are closed for good or just closed due a fire isn’t clear at this point; either way, the place has at least been shut down temporarily.)
It seems like a good time to revisit a story that Eat Out editor Heather Shouse wrote in March 2006. It’s kind of a love letter to the city’s diners, as well as an increasingly apropos warning that they may not being able to keep whatever foothold they currently have in the restaurant scene. If for no other reason, read it to pay tribute to DG. But be warned: That last line, a quote from DG’s former owner Sheila DeMar, is a heartbreaker.
