What, you didn’t believe me yesterday when I said the indie film world is having a rough year? Okay, how about the layoffs today at Paramount Vantage, the indie label for Paramount, which brought out films like How She Move, Son of Rambow, and a little pic called There Will Be Blood? Does that convince you?
In their canning memo, kindly posted on the web by Variety’s Anne Thomspon, Paramount execs Rob Moore and John Lesher use all the code words—redundancies, streamline, strategic, discipline, challenging marketplace. Well, at least they avoided the word "downsize" or its ugly cousin "rightsize."
