Back in January when we spoke with Marc Jacobs’ business partner, Robert Duffy, about the much-anticipated opening of the Bucktown boutique, he told us that "it was only the beginning of Marc Jacobs in the Windy City." Well, the day has come when MJ takes his next step in gracing the city with more designs. This time it’s the pricier stuff.
According to Crain’s (thus far, we’ve been unable to get any first-hand commentary), the designer’s high-end boutique will move into the Gold Coast early next year. The article also states that Jacobs’ signed on as the first retail tenant of the new 60-story Elysian hotel and condo tower (11 E Walton St), where other luxury brands are likely to reside as well. Just don’t hold your breath until the shop’s opening. If his track record with punctuality, or rather, a lack thereof, is any indication of when this store will truly open its doors, you might just go blue in the face while waiting.
