In an opposite move of local chef Takashi Yagihashi (opening the counter-service Noodles by Takashi prior to his sit-down stunner Takashi), Marcus Samuelsson opened a burger joint today, about a month after his upscale C-House was unveiled. Marc Burger has joined Takashi, LaBrea Bakery and Frontera Fresco in Macy’s Seven on State food court with a concise menu that includes a classic burger (albeit grass-fed Black Angus), a turkey version and a meatless portabello (all $7.95). If the eight-buck price tag seems hard to swallow, it pales in comparison to the prime burger with a fried egg, which is $12.95.
Keep in mind, though, that all burgers come with fries, slaw and housemade pickles, so it’s running about dead even with other new haute burger spots like Epic Burger once you add on sides.
Marc Burger also serves frozen custard in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry (shakes or cups), a citrus-glazed mahi-mahi sandwich and a grilled chicken breast topped with avocado. At this rate, it’s only a matter of time before Laurent Gras goes food court. Any guesses as to what we’d get if he did?
