Seems like Chicago’s Las Vegas moment keeps on getting extended: We’ve just gotten word that following in the footsteps of David Burke, Douglas Rodriguez and Christian Delouvrier is Marcus Samuelsson, who will be opening a restaurant in the Affinia Chicago Hotel in early 2008.
The Ethiopian-born, Swedish-raised chef has two restaurants in New York—Riingo, which serves Japanese-American fusion, and the Swedish restaurant Aquavit. The new restaurant—which so far has no name—will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will oversee all food operations for the hotel (which was formerly the Fitzpatrick Hotel). Located at 166 E Superior St, Samuelsson will have some tough competition: Trotter’s restaurant in the Elysian, slated to open around the same time, will be just up the street. But Samuelsson is the youngest chef to ever receive three stars from the New York Times—so we don’t think he’ll have any trouble.

This is GREAT NEWS! I have his cookbook and the food is amazing. I can’t wait to be able to sit down to a prepared meal designed by him! He uses the most creative combinations of spices :)
